A fair wheel of names
Spinning a wheel is a fun, visible way to choose: who presents first in class, which restaurant tonight, or the winner of a social-media giveaway. Each spin on this wheel is decided by your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues), the same source used for passwords and encryption keys. The wheel turns at least five full times and then a random extra amount, slowing down with a smooth ease-out, and the winner is whichever slice stops under the pointer at the top. Because the final angle is uniformly random, every slice, and so every entry, has exactly the same chance.
Giveaways and classrooms
- Remove winners: tick the option to take each winner off the wheel so nobody wins twice, ideal for drawing several prizes or calling on students in turn.
- Weighting: to give someone more chances, simply enter their name more than once.
- History: every result is listed below the wheel, so you can show the order of draws.
- Shuffle: mixes the order of entries around the wheel without changing the odds.
Transparency for online giveaways
If you run a giveaway on Instagram, TikTok or YouTube, record your screen while you spin so followers can see that the draw was live. Paste the list of qualifying commenters, one per line, and spin once per prize. The page does not connect to any social network or store your list; it lives only in the text box in your browser. Long names are shortened on the wheel to fit, but the full name is shown in the result.
Accessibility and motion
The result is announced to screen readers when the wheel stops. If your device is set to reduce motion, the spin is shortened to a fraction of a second while the random result stays exactly the same.
